Chapter 9 : The Question

The next few days felt… different.

More laughter.

More texts.

More wanting.

Something had shifted.

Not loudly.

Not dramatically.

But enough for everyone to notice .

Friends First Notice

Aditi sat with Nisha at a café, half-listening while stirring her coffee for the third time.

“You’re smiling,” Nisha said, eyes sharp.

Aditi looked up. “Am I?”

“Yes. And you do that only when someone has your attention.”

Aditi sighed. “It’s not… serious yet.”

Nisha grinned. “That’s how all serious things start.”

Across town, Arjun stood with Rohit, watching traffic pass.

“You’re quieter these days,” Rohit said.

Arjun smirked. “I’m thinking.”

“That’s dangerous,” Rohit teased. Then, more gently,

“You like her. Don’t pretend otherwise.”

Arjun didn’t deny it.

The Hint of Jealousy

Later that day, Dev’s name popped up on Aditi’s phone again.

Dev: Still waiting for that coffee.

She didn’t reply.

Instead, she texted Arjun.

Aditi:

Do you ever get annoyed when someone else notices what’s yours?

He replied instantly.

Arjun:

I don’t get annoyed.

I get territorial.

Her heart raced.

Friends Push Them Forward

That evening, Nisha and Rohit—now officially married and glowing—invited both families over under the excuse of “post-wedding dinner.”

Nisha pulled Aditi aside.

“You deserve someone who chooses you openly.”

Rohit clapped Arjun on the back.

“Don’t wait too long. Good things don’t wait forever.”

The message was clear.

Families Talk

As everyone settled in, the room felt heavier—expectant.

Anita spoke gently.

“We’ve met Aditi’s parents again.”

Meera nodded.

“They’re good people.”

Vikram folded his hands.

“But before anything else…”

Raghavan finished calmly,

“We want to hear from you.”

Silence.

Even the friends went quiet.

The Question

“This marriage,” Meera said softly,

“Do you want to continue?”

Aditi’s fingers trembled.

She glanced at Arjun.

Not for permission.

For comfort.

Arjun met her gaze—steady, sure.

“I do,” he said. “I want to see where this goes.”

Aditi swallowed.

“I want that too.”

Nisha clapped quietly, eyes shining.

“Finally.”

Rohit smiled wide.

“About time.”

Siblings React

Riya raised her hands.

“I called it.”

Karthik groaned.

“I lost a bet.”

Laughter broke the tension.

The decision had been made—not loudly, not dramatically—but honestly.

A Quiet Moment

Later, on the balcony, Arjun stood beside Aditi.

“You okay?” he asked.

She nodded.

“More than okay.”

He smiled softly.

“Good. Because now… this is real.”

She looked at him, heart full.

“Yes,” she said.

“It is.”
