Chapter 4 : Family Talks and Subtle Plans

Her House – Afternoon

The Iyer living room buzzed like a miniature storm.

Karthik Iyer, was lounging on the sofa, laptop open, coding furiously for his startup app while keeping one eye on the conversation. “So… the mysterious coffee date. Spill. Or are we keeping secrets now?”

She groaned, flipping her sketchpad closed. “You’re impossible.”

Her mother, Meera Iyer, adjusted the flowers on the table. “It’s not impossible to notice that the meeting went well.”

Her father, Raghavan Iyer, folded his newspaper, speaking with his usual calm authority. “We’ve only met their family. But from what we saw, the boy is respectful, confident, and seems genuinely interested in you.”

Karthik jumped up. “Interest, huh? Finally! You’re going to admit it then!”

She swatted his arm, laughing despite herself. “Interest doesn’t mean anything yet.”

Meera smiled. “He seems nice. But it’s early. Let’s see how the children feel after another meeting.”

Karthik smirked, leaning back into his laptop chair. “By the way, did you tell him about my app? It’s going to revolutionize messaging.”

She rolled her eyes. “No, and you’re not going to volunteer me as your beta tester either.”

His House – Evening

Meanwhile, the Malhotras were in a similar storm.

Riya Malhotra, was a budding architect finishing her latest design project on her tablet while perched on the sofa. She didn’t look up from her work. “So… Coffee date today. How was it? Did she laugh at your jokes?”

He raised an eyebrow, smirking. “I told you, it wasn’t a date. And yes, she laughed… at my jokes that weren’t even funny.”

Riya tilted her tablet like a shield. “Of course they were funny! You just don’t know it yet. I call that chemistry.”

His father, Vikram Malhotra, leaned back, amused. “She seems intelligent, independent. And confident. That’s what matters.”

Anita Malhotra, his mother, smiled. “Yes, but now we need to gauge if they feel comfortable with each other enough to meet again, perhaps under more serious circumstances.”

Riya grinned mischievously. “Or… we could just push them a little. You know, nudge them toward realizing they like each other.”

He laughed, shaking his head. “You’re incorrigible.”

Family Discussions

Later that night, the Iyer and Malhotra parents spoke over the phone.

“Both children seem… compatible,” Meera said.

“Yes,” Anita agreed. “They’ve exchanged numbers. They seem interested in getting to know each other.”

Raghavan added, “Perhaps we can arrange a more private meeting—just them—so they can decide on their own terms.”

Vikram nodded. “Agreed. We’ll schedule it soon. No pressure, but the path should be clear.”

That night, both of them were quietly replaying the meeting.

  1. She: He’s confident, playful, and… irritatingly charming. Why do I feel like I want to see him again?

  2. He: She’s sharp, independent, and laughs like she owns the world. I need more of that.

The spark was igniting slowly—but the family dynamics, siblings’ teasing, and subtle nudges were accelerating it behind the scenes.
